The sweetness in being vulnerable. Experiencing health setbacks while travelling abroad has inspired me to approach life's circumstances from new angles. And although surrendering to life's plans feels elevated — it is still a challenge, isn't it? I've been reminding myself to relinquish past expectations, so trusting life becomes a conscious choice. Allowing myself to be vulnerable.
One of these days, after accepting the fact that I should take an anti-inflammatory medication and rest, I found myself watching Ladies in Lavender on YouTube on a Thursday afternoon. Dolce far niente. And I'm not sure if it was the movie, which is a heart-opening and beautiful motion picture, the artisan lavender chocolate I was eating, or simply that I allowed myself to surrender completely — probably a combination of it all — that it felt profoundly nurturing. Caring. Sweet, even.
Time and time again, I find so much sweetness and serenity in the moments I allow myself to be vulnerable. Dolce vulnerabilità. Dr Brené Brown wisely enlightens us that vulnerability is not a sign of weakness but a measure of courage. The times that we feel vulnerable are times of great courage. The moments that challenge us are moments filled with potential for self-development, self-mastery and the potential to look at things from a different angle. I say this because we often perceive others 'living the life' and forget that we all have our challenges — our vulnerabilities. And we are all simultaneously 'living life.'
So, no matter what your Achilles heel is — I hope you, too, find great sweetness in exploring all different approaches to it. Let it be our fortitude.
Love,
Daniela
