In reverence of our majestic life-giving Oceans — I dedicate this piece.
THE MORE I STUDY GEOLOGY AND COSMOLOGY
THE MORE I UNDERSTAND HOW PRECIOUS MYTHOLOGY IS
BEYOND PLEASING THE SENSES
VENUS KNOWS HOW DEEP OUR OCEAN IS
FOR SHE, THAT ONCE WAS AN OCEAN WORLD
AS EARTH IS NOW
WHISPERS SOFTLY — ATMOSPHERE IS LIKE BEAUTY
OH, HOW SHE ROMANCES A MYSTERY
AND I, I LOVE A GOOD METAPHOR
Isn't it enlightening to revisit science through mythology? There is profound scientific knowledge embedded in mythic stories.
Millions of years ago, at different moments in Earth's history, our world was completely covered by a single global Ocean. Imagine that. A majestic Ocean creating a rich, humid atmosphere, enabling life as we know it to emerge. It all started at the Ocean.
Today, our planet's liquid skin represents more than 70 per cent of its surface.
The enchanting Planet Venus was once an ocean world, too. But She is too hot 'now' for water to exist. From our Earth point of view, since last week's Venus and Sun conjunction, we will start to see Venus as an Evening 'Star'. This means that before long, Venus will be visible in our sky after sunset.
This phase of Venus' cycle is associated with the mythic story of Aphrodite Urania. Legend has it that She arose from the Ocean's foam. Connected to the Heavens. A daughter of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Heaven).
And isn't it amusing that the Ocean is such a good source of metaphors for connecting the Divine and Earthly realms? I can't help but wonder if these were, too, the emotions evoked in those who crystallised this myth.
To me, what is certain is that Oceans are the most sensual form of life on this Earth — Along with wild roses, of course — but they were born with Aphrodite, too. Legend has it...
With Love,
Ocean to Ocean
